11/20/07: Providence Public Library Tackles Teen Physical Activity
Erica Wilder, Coordinator of the "Bites & Bytes" Program at the Smith
Hill and South Providence Branches of the Providence Public Library wants
her area teens to understand the importance of regular exercise and limiting
sedentary activities like TV watching and playing computer games. She
has asked Kid First Physical Activity Professional, Lori Keough, to work
with the teens on increasing their physical activity. Lori with teach
the teens how to warm up, stretch and do fun aerobic exercise routines
that include great kick boxing moves.
11/26/07:
Ashaway School Participate in "Wellness"
Nancy Fisher, School Nurse at the Ashaway School has invited Kids
First professionals, Mary-Elena DeLuca, Sandy Sepe and Carole Toselli,
to conduct a wellness workshop for all of the teachers in her school.
This workshop is an interactive program that helps participants improve
their own nutrition and food safety habits, and increase their daily physical
activity. Workshop topics include "Sweeten Up Your Life Without That Extra
Sugar" and "Turn Household Chores into an Exercise Program." The teachers
will leave full of ideas to use in the classroom and at home that encourage
healthy eating and active living.
11/26/07: Wellness Night at Guiteras School in Bristol
Susan Donovan, Physical Education Teacher at the Guiteras School in
Bristol, would like to have the parents and students work together to
learn to prepare healthier foods. Kids First Chef, Jana Volmuth, will
lead the parents and children in the preparation of healthy whole wheat
veggie wraps. Together they will make "unsoda" with seltzer and 100% Juice.
They will all leave energized with some easy recipes that they can make
at home.

11/30: Toll Gate Students Get a Lesson on Veggies
Deb Tillinghast, Family & Consumer Science Teacher at Toll Gate High
School in Warwick, always stresses the importance of veggies to her food
classes. She has invited Kids First Chef, Karen Krinsky, to do some hands-on
preparation with her classes. Chef Karen will help the students cook a
variety of veggie recipes that they will love and also be willing to reproduce
for their moms, dads, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles… everyone!

Project Link Gets Cooking with Kids First
Kids First and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank present a nutrition
workshop and cooking demonstration, in partnership with Project Link in
Providence. Participants will learn how to use the foods that they receive
at the pantry, simple ways to eat healthier, cooking basics and meal planning.
Kids First Chef/Nutritionist, Jessica Williams, involves participants
with great tasting, easy to make meals that can be reproduced at home.
Everyone will leave with simple, new and useful recipe ideas.
11/29/07:
Pawtucket Even Start Gets Lesson in Healthy Eating
Heather Harrison, Coordinator of the Pawtucket Even Start Program
wants the parents she works with to understand the importance of having
their children get an early start when it comes to making healthy food
choices. Kids First Dietitian, Katie Mulligan, will work with the parents
teaching them simple nutrition concepts that will help them to but and
prepare healthy foods and snacks for their children. The parents will
get to taste some simple recipes that they can easily reproduce at home.
