11/13/07: Crossroads Family Center Gets Cooking with Kids First
Kids First and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank present a nutrition
workshop and cooking demonstration, in partnership with the Crossroads
Family Center in Providence. Participants will learn how to use the foods
that they receive at the pantry, simple ways to eat healthier, cooking
basics and meal planning. Kids First Chef, William McBride, will work
with the parents and Kids First Chef, Jessica Williams, will work with
the children at the center. The chefs will involve participants with great
tasting, easy to make meals that can be reproduced at home. Everyone will
leave with simple, new and useful recipe ideas.
11/14/07:
Ishi Dojo Martial Arts Studio Tackles Nutrition
Gilda Piccoli, co-owner of the Ishi Dojo Martial Arts Studio in Providence,
wants the students at her studio to understand the importance of nutrition
as part of their martial arts training. She has asked Kids First Chef,
Heidi Carla, to visit the studio and help to make healthier eating choices.
Chef Heidi will show the children how to make easy, nutritious snacks
that taste great and that they can make at home.
11/14/07:
Nathanael Greene Teachers Participate in "Wellness"
Lourdes Costa, School Nurse at the Nathanael Greene Middle School
in Providence, has invited Kids First professionals, Mary-Elena DeLuca,
Sandy Sepe and Karin Wetherill, to conduct a wellness workshop for all
of the teachers at the school. This workshop is an interactive program
that helps participants improve their own nutrition and food safety habits,
and increase their daily physical activity. Workshop topics include "Sweeten
Up Your Life Without That Extra Sugar" and "Turn Household Chores into
an Exercise Program." The teachers will leave full of ideas to use in
the classroom and at home that encourage healthy eating and active living.
11/15/07:
Students at Windmill Street Get Moving with "Mad Louis"
Sue Verrecchia, School Nurse at the Windmill Street School in Providence,
wants her students to have fun when they exercise. Kids First will help
by sending in Kids First Physical Activity Professional, Louis Moniz,
to lead the large group of elementary school children in active dance
sessions. "Mad Louis" will teach them how to do the Bus Stop, Electric
Slide, Swing, or any dance they want to learn!
11/15/07:
Get Up & Go at Jenks in Pawtucket
Students at Jenks Junior High School have been "getting up and going"
every morning in this unique before school program of physical activity
and a healthy breakfast, called "Get Up & Go!" Today, Kids First will
provide a special guest for the students to "get going" with. Physical
Activity Professional, Louis Moniz, makes an appearance to MOVE the kids!
11/15/07: Cranston School Participate in "Wellness"
Deb Svitil, School Nurse Coordinator in Cranston, has invited Kids
First professionals, Mary-Elena DeLuca, Jessica Williams and Karin Wetherill,
