11/6, 11/13, 11/20: "After School Fit Kids" Series is at Fifth Avenue
Maliss Men, Coordinator of the After School Program at the Fifth Avenue Elementary School in Woonsocket, wanted to get in on the afterschool fitness "action." She wants the children in her afterschool program to learn the importance of healthy eating and daily exercise through fun hands-on activities, so she has arranged with Kids First to provide a variety of programs. During the 13 week program, Kids First Chefs, Jessica Williams and Aaron Lenart, will engage the children in a variety of healthy food experiences that are age appropriate and guaranteed to peak their taste buds. Also, Kids First Fitness Professionals: Dawn Anderson, Lori Keough and Kristine DeSerres, will show the kids how to get moving and get energized. And Kids First Master Gardener, Kim Korb, will teach the children how to plant herbs that they can grow on their windowsill at home. There's plenty more, as the entire 13-week program includes lots of special guests who will engage the children in a wide variety of healthy activities.

11/6/07: Birch Vocational School Teachers Participate in "Wellness"
Lauren Coletta, School Nurse at the Birch Vocational Center in Providence has invited Kids First professionals: Mary-Elena DeLuca, Sandy Sepe and Karin Wetherill, to conduct a wellness workshop for all of the teachers at the school. This workshop is an interactive program that helps participants improve their own nutrition and food safety habits, and increase their daily physical activity. Workshop topics include "Sweeten Up Your Life Without That Extra Sugar" and "Turn Household Chores into an Exercise Program." The teachers will leave full of ideas to use in the classroom and at home that encourage healthy eating and active living.

11/9/07: Highlands Childcare Gets Lesson with Kids First Chef
Sharon Campbell, Pre-School Teacher at the Highlands Childcare in Lincoln wants her students to get a head start on learning about good nutrition. She has invited Kids First Chef/Nutritionist Jessica Williams to come to her school and work with the youngsters. Chef Jess will delight the children with Pyramid Yogurt Parfaits that they can make at home with their parents.

11/10/07: Kids First Professionals Workshop - "Food & Fun"
Kids First is holding a workshop at the Warwick Public Library from 9:00AM to 11:00AM for all Kids First Professional Chefs, Dietitians, Master Gardeners, and Physical Activity Specialists. The workshop will include information on conducting food-safe and child-safe presentations and workshops and how to use proven interactive activities that will engage the participants, both children and adults. The Kids First Professionals will receive handouts and ideas that they can use to develop their workshops for schools, child care centers, and after school program sites throughout Rhode Island.
