5/19/08: Parents in Central Falls Get Lesson on My Pyramid
Manuela Raposa, Coordinator of Family & Community Partnerships, has
gathered the parents in Central Falls to attend a nutrition workshop.
She has invited Kids First Chef/Nutritionist, Jessica Williams, to help
the parents understand how to use My Pyramid as they shop and prepare
family meals. Chef Jess will make some easy recipes as she explains My
Pyramid to the participants. They will leave ready and able to serve healthier
offerings to their families.
5/23/08:
Matunuck School Students Get Healthy
Donna Lennon, School Nurse at the Matunuck School in South Kingstown,
has planned her annual health fair to insure that the students at her
school continue to learn healthy habits for a lifetime. She has invited
a Kids First Chef/Dietitian, Katie Hopewood, to attend their Health Fair
with some fun hands-on activities that will get the students thinking
about healthy eating and physical activity. Chef Katie will introduce
the students to some new healthy foods that they can easily reproduce
at home.
5/28/08:
East Providence Teachers Participate in "Wellness"
Linda Succi, Principal at the Emma G. Whitenact School in East Providence,
has invited Kids First professionals: Mary-Elena DeLuca, Sandy Sepe and
Karin Wetherill, to conduct a wellness workshop for all of the teachers
at her school. This workshop is an interactive program that helps participants
improve their own nutrition and food safety habits, and increase their
daily physical activity. Workshop topics include "Sweeten Up Your Life
Without That Extra Sugar" and "Turn Household Chores into an Exercise
Program." The teachers will leave full of ideas to use in the classroom
and at home that encourage healthy eating and active living.

Flora Curtis Hosts Wellness Morning for Young Students
Kathy Andreozzi, School Nurse at the Flora Curtis School in Pawtucket,
is holding a Wellness Morning for the kindergartners, first and second
grade students. She has invited Kids First Chef, Kimberly Sporkmann, to
engage the students in some fun way to learn simple nutrition concepts.
Chef Kimberly will make a healthy snack with the students and let them
know that healthy eating will help their bodies to grow strong, learn
better in school, and perform better in sports.
