4/26: RI School Nurse Teachers Focus on Wellness
It's time, once again, for the Annual School Nurse Teacher Conference. Tracy Berg with the RI Department of Health decided the best way to learn about health and nutrition is from the professionals themselves. At her request, a Kids First Chef, will be educating those in attendance about food safety and creative ways to teach students about nutrition and food safety. Karin Wetherill will also be on hand to answer questions about the work of the District Wellness Committees. The school nurse teachers will improve their personal knowledge and become better role models for the students that they teach and for their families.

She has asked Kids First Chef/Nutritionist, Kimberly Sporkmann, to visit the studio and help to make healthier eating choices. 4/29: Johnston Schools Leadership Team Attends Superintendent Wellness Workshop
Peg Iacovelli, Superintendent in Johnston, has invited Kids First professionals: Mary-Elena DeLuca, Sandy Sepe and Carole Toselli, to conduct a wellness workshop for all of the district's top administrators. This workshop is an interactive program that helps participants improve their own nutrition and food safety habits, and increase their daily physical activity. Workshop topics include "Sweeten Up Your Life Without That Extra Sugar" and "Turn Household Chores into an Exercise Program." The participants will discuss their district's wellness policy, learn about the RI Law regarding healthy beverages and snacks in school, obtain great ideas for fundraising and classroom/school celebrations, and hopefully begin to realize that building a district culture of wellness begins with each of them.
