4/1: Providence Students "Think Your Drink!"
Anne Colannino, from the Nathanael Greene Middle School in Providence,
wants her students to learn how to choose healthy drinks and snacks. She
has invited Kids First Professionals, Sandy Sepe and Karin Wetherill,
to have the students "Think Your Drink" and taste some healthy snack alternatives.
4/1: McAuley Village Plants Veggies with Master Gardener
Angela Ferrara, Coordinator of the After School Program at McAuley
Village in Providence, would like the students living in her community
to enjoy the hobby of gardening and eating delicious fresh veggies and
herbs. She has invited Kids First Master Gardener, Kim Korb, to show the
children how easy it is to plants seeds and watch them grow into tasty
healthy produce.
4/1, 4/8: "After School Fit Kids" Series is at Cunningham School
Elaine Cruz, Coordinator of the After School Program at M. Virginia
Cunningham Elementary School in Pawtucket, wanted to get in on the afterschool
fitness "action." She wants the children in her afterschool program to
learn the importance of healthy eating and daily exercise through fun
hands-on activities, so she has arranged with Kids First to provide a
variety of programs. During the last 2 weeks of the 13 week program, Kids
First Chef Kimberly Sporkmann, will engage the children in a variety of
healthy food experiences that are age appropriate and guaranteed to peak
their taste buds. Also, Kids First Fitness Professional Kristine DeSerres,
will show the kids how to get moving and get energized.
4/2, 4/9: After School Fit Kids" Series is at Elizabeth Baldwin
Karen Landry, Coordinator of the After School Program at Elizabeth
Baldwin Elementary School in Pawtucket, wanted to get in on the afterschool
fitness "action." She wants the children in her afterschool program to
learn the importance of healthy eating and daily exercise through fun
hands-on activities, so she has arranged with Kids First to provide a
variety of programs. During the last 2 weeks of the 13 week program, Justin
Polemeni, J & W student will engage the children in a variety of healthy
food experiences that are age appropriate and guaranteed to peak their
taste buds. Also, Kids First Fitness Professional Elissa Felder will show
the kids how to get moving and get energized.

4/9: "After School Fit Kids" Series is at Fallon Memorial School
Leslie Pietraszka, Coordinator of the After School Program at Fallon
Memorial School in Pawtucket, wanted to get in on the afterschool fitness
"action." She wants the children in her afterschool program to learn the
importance of healthy eating and daily exercise through fun hands-on activities,
so she has arranged with Kids First to provide a variety of programs.
During the last 2 weeks of a 13 week program, Kids First Chef, Katie Hopewood
will engage the children in a variety of healthy food experiences that
are age appropriate and guaranteed to peak their taste buds. Also, Kids
First Fitness Professional Louis Moniz, will show the kids how to get
moving and get energized.
4/3: Kids First Invited To Reading Week 2007 Festivities
It's almost time again for Reading Week at Marieville School in North
Providence. Reading Specialist, Tanya Deanseris, has invited Kids First
J & W Intern Justin Polemeni, to attend the reading week activities and
read an engaging children's book, Good Enough to Eat.
4/3, 4/10: "After School Fit Kids" Series is at Henry Winters
Alba Steiner, Coordinator of the After School Program at Henry Winters
Elementary School in Pawtucket, wanted to get in on the afterschool fitness
"action." She wants the children in her afterschool program to learn the
importance of healthy eating and daily exercise through fun hands-on activities,
so she has arranged with Kids First to provide a variety of programs.
During the last 2 weeks of the 13 week program, Kids First J & W Student
Chef, Justin Polemeni will engage the children in a variety of healthy
food experiences that are age appropriate and guaranteed to peak their
taste buds. Also, Kids First Fitness Professional, Elissa Felder, will
show the kids how to get moving and get energized.

Salvation Army Kids Café Gets Lesson in Nutrition
Kids First and the RI Community Food Bank are working in partnership
to bring hands-on nutrition programs to the children at the Kids Café.
Captain David Collins has invited Master Gardener Kim Korb to introduce
the parts of the plants that we eat to the children at the Salvation Army.
Master Gardener Kim will show the children how to plant their own vegetables
and taste some delicious raw veggies.
4/5: Ponaganset MS Plants Apple Orchard
Janet Ragno, Assistant Principal at the Ponaganset Middle School in
Foster-Glocester, wants the students in her school to experience "The
Living Campus." The community is invited to plant an apple orchard in
front of their school. They will later plant blueberries and raspberries
around the orchard. She has invited Kids First to join in the fun. Caitlin
Hughes, a J & W Community Services Student Volunteer, will be there with
nutrition information and recipes and Kids First's Kimberly Sporkmann
will be on hand to answer questions about the RI Farm to School program.
4/5: Central Falls Farmer's Market Demo
Vernia Carter, a member of Channel One community program, is holding
a farmer's market open to the public in Central Falls from 10:00am to
2:00pm. Cooking demonstrations will be presented at this event by Justin
Polemeni, a student at Johnson & Wales University and an intern at Kids
First. The Farmer's Market featured fruit this month is the Golden Delicious
Apple which will be apart of the healthy Waldorf salad also featuring
the available other fresh fruits and vegetables at the market.
